MOTIVATIONAL MESSAGE FOR WEEK 8
"Fall seven times, stand up eight."
Japanese Proverb
All we need is progress, not perfection. There is no better measure of success than our ability and our willingness to withstand temporary setbacks and try again. In fact, it is the optimist in me that says "temporary setbacks" instead of "failures." Failure is not the inability to reach our desired goal, but rather the cessation of effort towards reaching that goal. As long as we are reaching towards our goal, we can not fail. The moment we stop trying, we fail. That does not mean, there will not be times we have to reassess our goals and re-evaluate our reasons for pursuing certain goals. But if, in reassessing our goals, we choose other more appropriate goals, then too we have not really failed, only corrected our course. When we understand that the goal is not really what it seems, we can always refine our goals and reach for clearer ones. Losing the weight is not as much the goal as is defining the kind of person we become in our efforts to achieve a worthwhile goal. The pursuit of the goal is what strengthens us, what encourages us to grow and change, what inspires us to great things. We will not reach all our dreams, but all our dreams involve reaching. If we honor the process and honor our growth, we can never truly fail at any goal. We can only learn about ourselves, and in so doing, become stronger, more compassionate and more loving. In reaching for our goals, we enrich our lives. So "Fall seven times, stand up eight" is the motto that keeps us going when things get rough, that builds our character when our goals seem out of sight. There is a saying "We do not drown because we fall into the water. We drown because we fail to get up." Always remember, no matter how many times you may fall, you need only stand up one more time to be a success. May God bless you in all your efforts to become the most physically healthy, emotionally strong and spiritually joyous person you can become. You deserve it and the world will be a better place because of your efforts to improve yourself and share your enthusiasm with others.
